Join us for the classic Huffmaster starting in Maxwell, California. West of Hwy 5 and east of the Mendocino National Forest lies miles of rolling gravel roads and lightly traveled tarmac that few have seen on two wheels. Two routes to choose from—89 or 59 miles—and less climbing than a typical Hopper make these mixed-terrain routes a real treat.
Routes
Huffmaster:
Starting from Maxwell High School, riders roll northwest on 25 miles of flat pavement (often with headwinds) before climbing gradually to mile 40. A steep gravel climb from mile 40–43 tops out at 1,700 ft, followed by a fast gravel descent to Stony Creek. From mile 46–53, riders climb again to 1,800 ft before descending west toward Leesville Gap (mile 67). A final short gravel climb on Huffmaster Rd leads to the summit and rolling gravel through mile 80 into Sites, finishing with 5 miles of pavement.
Huffmaster Mini:
The Mini joins the main route via Sites and Leesville-Ladoga Rd, featuring a tough 3.5-mile climb from 550–1,800 ft and roughly 25 miles of gravel overall.
All routes are open to traffic — follow all laws and Rules of Engagement.
Plan B (Extreme Weather):
If conditions make the main course unsafe, riders will follow Leesville Rd into the valley and return to Maxwell — still a great loop!

Registration opens November 1st, 2025 and closes February 25th, 2026 at 9pm PST

Day-of registration is available if the event is not sold out and incurs an additional $20 fee on top of standard registration fee.
If you are unable to attend due to injury, illness or other reasons the deadline to transfer your registration online to another rider is February 19th at 11:59PM PST. Transfer instructions here

When registering, the team captain should create the team first.
How to create a team on movemint
Once the team is created, other riders can select that team name from the drop-down menu during registration.
Teams or groups of 5 or more planning to register together can reach out to us before registering to receive $10 off for each rider
All team members must register under the same exact team name for results to be grouped correctly.

Bike Choice + Setup
We’d recommend a 35-40 tire. Either slick or semi slick/slight knobs. Overall the gravel roads are smooth and packed but there are a few sections with deep gravel and loose corners. With this weeks storm you can expect some mud as well. The most important thing is to have plenty of tire clearance and tires in good/new condition. Be prepared! We will have some rolling support out there but it’s essential you are able to take care of you basic repairs. Recommended tool kit: 2 tubes, 2 CO2, small pump, Dyna Plug, chain tool, allen/torx wrench set, patches, tire boots.
Note: E-Bikes are not permitted at this event.
