The concept is simple: complete a 6.7km loop within one hour, every hour. The race continues until one runner remains.
NEW FOR 2026: For every lap you complete, you will receive a raffle ticket earning you a chance to win from a selection of gear prizes courtesy of Arc'teryx! Plus, in addition to going "one more" lap, hitting milestones (10k, half-marathon, marathon, 50k, 100k) unlocks bonus entries and increases your odds of winning.

THE SELF-SUPPORTED STANDARD
Participants must bring sufficient hydration, nutrition, clothing & a first-aid kit. Approach this event like a solo expedition. We provide limited neutral support: basic food, water, coffee & tea. We cannot accommodate dietary restrictions.
MANDATORY GEAR
Lights: Front light & reflective back gear required (illuminated 30 mins before twilight).
Navigation: GPS unit with the route loaded is strongly recommended.
Hydration: Water is at the start, but a hydration pack is highly encouraged.
SUPPORT CREW
We encourage bringing a support crew. Time between loops vanishes quickly—focus on resting & fueling while your crew replenishes supplies. Live tracking (Garmin/Strava/FindMy) is recommended. Your setup should be prepared for any weather & can include: a folding chair, sleeping bag, blankets & warm clothing. Sunscreen, bug spray, medical kit & extra socks are recommended.
SAFETY PROCEDURES
This is a self-supported event on public trails. Safety, navigation & well-being rest with you. By entering, you acknowledge inherent hazards (traffic, weather, remote terrain) that cannot be eliminated.
REPORTING A DNF
If you wish to withdraw from the race, YOU MUST REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THE LEADERBOARD & notify the race director immediately.
BAIL-OUT PROTOCOL
If you cannot complete the distance, you must have a personal bail-out plan (e.g., friend/family pickup).
EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Dial 911 & provide:
Location: GPS coordinates, cross-streets or km marker
Identity: Name, Age, DOB
Nature of Emergency: (e.g., crash, cardiac issue)
Vitals: Conscious? Breathing? Pulse?
Thank you for choosing the 2026 Surrey Backyard Ultra. We can't wait to see how far our community can go together!
