About Rainier Raid 2027
Rainier Raid is a 36-hour or 12-hour adventure race that challenges participants to mountaineer, bike, trek, canyon, and white water through the stunning landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. As a USARA and ARWS regional event, Rainier Raid attracts the best adventure racers from around the world, offering an unparalleled test of endurance, navigation, and teamwork.
The race starts and finishes in Packwood, Washington — a small mountain town with easy road access from both Seattle (~2 hr 20 min) and Portland (~2 hr 45 min).
Expect a 27–30 hour finish time for the 36-hour course, depending on your pace and navigation ability. The course is open for 36 hours to allow for shenanigans. Racers should be prepared for a full-spectrum Pacific Northwest adventure race experience, including:
- Singletrack and true "adventure" mountain bike trails
- Class II+ whitewater
- Canyons featuring rappels, slides, jumps, and exploration
- Difficult bushwhacking, off-trail navigation, and significant peak bagging
- Swimming — athletes should expect to get wet
Teams of 2–4 participants. Solos allowed with Race Director approval.
Race bib, passport, 2 sets of maps, and GPS tracker are provided. Mountain bikes only (no gravel bikes). Packraft or inflatable kayak permitted.
Packwood has limited lodging inventory — book early!
