About Out and Back Screening + Q&A
Join Alison Mariella Désir, host of Out and Back on Cascade PBS, and Max Djenohan, elite survivalist and athlete, for a screening + Q&A at the REI Flagship. On the final episode of the season, Max takes Alison out to Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Park to teach her the basics of survival skills and how the outdoors can be your greatest teacher.
About Max
Max Djenohan is an Elite Survivalist, Creator, Snowboarder, Outdoorsman and Storyteller.
Max was born in Seattle, Washington then moved to the Ivory Coast of Africa for the first 3 years of his life. Following his time in Cote d’ivoire, he moved to Brooklyn, New York at the age 3. After a couple of years, Max moved back to Seattle where he resides today.
He got his start in the outdoors at the age of 8, when his mother would bring his family camping and hiking around the PNW Cascades, Olympics, and British Columbia. He then started snowboarding at the age of 13, which quickly became one of his main passions. At the age of 24, he bought his first camera to document his adventures throughout the Cascades and beyond. When he turned 25, he set out to hike the 550-mile Washington section of the Pacific Crest Trail. After completing the section hike, he began to travel throughout the world documenting his adventures. At the age of 28, Discovery Channel’s show ‘Naked and Afraid’, reached out to Max to ask for his participation in the world’s toughest reality tv-show challenge.
About Alison Mariella Désir
Alison Mariella Désir is the author of the best-selling book, Running While Black, and the tv host and producer of the award winning show, Out & Back w/ Alison Mariella Désir on Cascade PBS. Alison is known as a thought leader, a community builder, and a culture shifter and has been named one of the most influential African Americans, aged 25 to 45, by The Root 100. Over the past decade, Alison has founded several organizations at the intersection of movement, mental health and racial justice. Alison holds her BA in History, MA in Latin American and Caribbean Regional Studies, and EdM in Counseling Psychology, all from Columbia University.
