About GLER 2026

All GLER Races and Course Loops begin and end at GLER Race HQ's Start/Finish lines located at Tulip Hill Picnic Area on the northeast corner above Green Lake.

The course has a widely varied trail surface that includes well maintained single and double track trail, grassy single track, dirt roads and a bit of asphalt, on a course that is extremely "runnable" as trail courses go.

• Each fixed distance (100K/50K/25K) race lap or loop is almost exactly 8 miles long.
• Two ascents and one long descent traverse the upland forest. These steep shaded trails have some roots, ruts, and stones.
• The upper meadows — referred to as the Serengeti — offer 3+ miles of running per loop and can make for a challenging summer ultra on warm sunny days.
• The lower lake section of trails are shaded, have a few roots, and are generally flat.
• Overall, the course lends itself to quick running without technical hikes.
• The 100K race is 8 total course laps; the 50K race is 4 loops; the 25K race is 2 loops.
• The 12 Hour timed race uses a different course: a clockwise 3-mile loop around Green and Round Lakes only. All timed racers continually circle the lower lakes portion as many times as possible.

The race clock runs a full 15 hours from the 100K start at 6:00 AM. All fixed distance racers (100K, 50K, 25K) must finish by 9:00 PM. All fixed distance racers must start their final loop by 6:45 PM. Any racer starting their final loop after 6:30 PM must carry their own light. The 12 Hour race clock runs 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM; any final loop completed after 7:00 PM will not count.

• All registered entrants who sign up at least 14 days prior will receive a t-shirt in their requested size.
• Race finishers receive a finisher's medal, either a GLER coffee cup or pint glass, and a bumper sticker decal for their finished distance.
• Podium recognition for the top 3 finishers of each distance (overall and female).
• Age group winners recognized in four divisions: Open (39 & under), Masters (40–59), Senior Masters (60–69), Ambassadors (70+).
• 2 stocked aid stations + 1 unmanned water drop — racers are always within 3.75 miles of the next aid.
• Course marked with directional and confidence markers every 100–200 meters.
• Personal bags, coolers, chairs & canopies (10'×10' max) permitted at McHenry-Main Aid Station at Tulip Hill — first come, first serve.
• GLER raffle — one ticket included with registration; additional tickets available for purchase.
• Stadelman-Hyer Midway Aid Station at the 4-mile mark on the far side of the Serengeti.

Refund Policy: No refunds will be accepted after 11:59 PM on July 16, 2027. There will be no race deferrals to the 2028 season.

Awards: All race awards and finisher's schwag will be handed out on race day. Racers or their designated representatives must be present by the time the race is packed up. Nothing will be mailed afterwards.
