Star City San Bruno Mountain Half Marathon

Want to run an epic trail race with amazing views?

Then check out the 7th Annual Star City San Bruno Mountain Half Marathon taking place on Saturday October 4, 2025!

The race is organized by the Excelsior Running Club and boasts spectacular views of the Pacific, Bay and San Francisco. The race is 93% on trail, kicks in 2,400 ft of elevation fun, and has a screaming single track downhill section.

The half marathon registration includes a t-shirt (if registered by 9/21/25), finishers medal, and a meal! Proceeds from the race help fund local community organizations!

Our race was dreamed up by runners who love the trails of San Bruno Mountain. We wanted to create an amazing running experience and then have participants enjoy a meal together while celebrating their accomplishments. We also have a 5K race option that is mostly on trail (shirt not included).

Start time

Our half marathon race starts at 9 AM and our 5K starts at 9:15 AM.

Cut-off time

Our cut-off time for the half marathon is 1 PM (4 hours). Due to permit limitations for the park, we need to make sure that no runners are on the course after this time.

Aid stations

We have three aid stations for the half marathon run by volunteers at mile markers 3.2, 7.2, and 9.9. Each Aid Station will be well stocked with gels, water, and sport drinks. Note that WE ARE A CUPLESS RACE and recommend that every runner bring/carry their own water bottle.

Bib pickup

Bib pickup will be taking place at our sponsor store locations that are TBD at a later date.

Race day pick up should be arranged with us if you cannot make early pick up. If arranged for you, we will have your bib available for pickup on race day starting at 7:30AM. Before you get your bib, you will need to read and sign a "Habitat Awareness" document, stating that you will not run off trail, and that you will be a courteous runner when someone wants to pass you. Failure to abide by these responsible trail requirements will result in disqualification.
 

Race day registration

We will provide race day registration on October 4 starting from 7:30AM. Please try to arrive no later than 8:30AM to ensure you do not start late. Race day fees will be $115 for the half marathon and $45 for the 5K.

County Park requirements

Dogs are not allowed in the park, nor on our course. If spectators want to view runners participating in the half marathon from the Saddle Area, there will be a $6.00 per vehicle entry fee - please car pool. You will be running in an area that is critical habitat for several endangered butterflies. If you run off trail, you will be disqualified.

Shirts/Awards

Half marathon runners who register by 9/21/25 are guaranteed a shirt. Shirts are not included for 5K entries. All Half Marathon runners and 5K runners will receive race medal upon finishing the race.
